The NeighborWorks
Alliance of Vermont is offering five employers the opportunity
to participate in a pilot Employee Homeownership program.
Employers are identifying the lack of
affordable housing in Vermont as a barrier to productivity
and economic growth
Vermont
ranks 7th nationwide in states that are losing prime candidates
for employment ñ college educated workers who
are 25 to 39 years old. Much of this loss is attributable to
the lack of affordable housing in Vermont.
Recruitment
challenges increase as employees face tough times finding
housing they can afford.
Between
1990-2000, the percentage of Vermontís workforce that
commutes an hour or more for work increased by 92%.
“The
Vermont Country Store recognizes that affordable
housing opportunities for working families are
essential to creating healthy and sustainable
communities in Vermont. The Vermont Employee
Homeownership program is an innovative and broad
approach to helping families plan for and achieve
their homeownership goals through an unusual
homebuyer and financial education curriculum.
We look forward to providing leadership in this
emerging initiative.”
